His coaching philosophy is based on education, respect, Cambodian cultural heritage, long-term health and intelligent training. The objective is not simply to produce stronger fighters, but to help children and athletes become disciplined, healthy and responsible people.

1. KKB Overview

KKB Kun Khmer Boxing Battambang is a Cambodian boxing club, training centre and social project dedicated to Kun Khmer, youth education, physical development and the protection of Cambodia’s martial heritage.

KKB Kun Khmer Boxing Battambang

The KKB approach places technique, defence, distance control, timing, movement and rapid return to guard before unnecessary power. The goal is to score, control the contest and avoid receiving damaging blows. This philosophy is explained in detail in the KKB fight philosophy.

For KKB, combat sport must not destroy the body. Training should improve physical condition, confidence, discipline and health while helping fighters protect their brains, bodies and long-term quality of life.

3. Martial Arts Background |

Chea Yuta’s martial arts background is not limited to one discipline. His experience combines several systems that complement each other:

  • MMA: transitions between striking, movement, defence and different fighting distances.
  • Pradal Serey: Cambodian stand-up fighting using punches, kicks, knees, elbows and clinch work.
  • Kbach Kun Boran: traditional Khmer martial knowledge, movement and self-defence.
  • Strength and conditioning: preparing the body to perform efficiently and resist fatigue.
  • Calisthenics: natural bodyweight exercises for mobility, coordination, control and functional strength.

This broad experience allows him to adapt exercises to children, beginners, active fighters and adults seeking better health rather than competition.

4. Experience in the United States |

His experience in the United States exposed him to different training environments, MMA methods, fitness systems and approaches to physical preparation. This international experience complements his Cambodian martial arts heritage.

At KKB, these modern methods are not used to replace traditional Kun Khmer. They are selected carefully and integrated only when they help athletes move better, recover properly and train more safely.

5. Exhibition Fight Experience |

Before an injury in 2006, Chea Yuta participated in five exhibition fights involving MMA and Muay Thai-style competition. These experiences gave him practical knowledge of pressure, preparation, fatigue and decision-making inside a combat environment.

Fight experience is valuable for a coach because training should prepare athletes for the real demands of competition, not only for looking strong during exercises.

6. Strength, Conditioning & Calisthenics

Chea Yuta specialises in strength and conditioning designed for combat sports. His objective is to develop useful physical abilities rather than unnecessary muscle mass.

His training priorities include:

  • Functional strength for punches, kicks, clinch and movement.
  • Explosive power without losing balance or control.
  • Specific cardio for rounds, combinations and recovery.
  • Joint mobility and injury prevention.
  • Bodyweight strength through calisthenics.
  • Natural methods for health, nutrition, rest and recovery.

KKB athletes can also study the club’s training resources, fitness guides, workouts and nutrition and recovery advice.

7. Kbach Kun Boran & Family Heritage |

An important part of Chea Yuta’s identity comes from ancient Khmer methods of defence passed down through his family, particularly from his father. This family transmission connects practical training with Cambodian history and culture.

Kbach Kun Boran should not be treated only as a historical performance. It represents knowledge about posture, balance, awareness, defence, movement and the protection of oneself and others.

Preserving this knowledge is part of KKB’s wider mission to protect Cambodian culture while connecting traditional methods with safe, structured modern training. Readers can discover more through the history of Kun Khmer and Kun Khmer history and culture.

8. Coaching Philosophy |

Chea Yuta and the KKB coaching team believe that education must come before ego. A student must learn respect, discipline, hygiene, patience and responsibility alongside fighting techniques.

The KKB fighting spirit is based on several principles:

  • Protect the head and body.
  • Return to guard immediately after every strike.
  • Use technique before uncontrolled force.
  • Control distance, timing and movement.
  • Score without exposing yourself unnecessarily.
  • Avoid accumulating damage that can shorten a career or harm long-term health.
  • Respect coaches, teammates, officials and opponents.

A good fighter is not the person who receives the most punishment. A good fighter controls the match, protects the body and remains healthy enough to enjoy a long life.

9. Free Training for Khmer Children |

KKB is open free of charge to Khmer children from the minimum age of six. The project gives children access to structured exercise, Kun Khmer education, discipline, social development and positive adult guidance.

The purpose is not to force every child to become a professional fighter. Some children may compete, while others may train for confidence, fitness, friendship and personal development.

10. Training for Foreign Visitors |

Foreign visitors are welcome to train at KKB. A participation fee is requested because international contributions help finance free training, equipment and social development opportunities for Khmer children.

This creates a responsible exchange: international students receive authentic training while their contribution supports the local community.
