For a young fighter competing in only his second official bout, Vet Vathanak displayed an unusually high ability to reproduce the techniques and instructions learned during training.
During the three to four weeks before the event, the KKB coaching team spent considerable time helping him understand how to move, protect himself, manage distance and respond correctly under pressure.

Approximately three quarters of the lessons practised during this preparation could be recognised during the fight. This is relatively rare among very young athletes with limited competition experience.
