What changes when elbows disappear?
An athlete cannot simply carry every habit from one ring to another. When elbow strikes are excluded, a close-range exchange must be finished with a legal action or an exit. The useful comparison is therefore about available options, not a claim that one sport is harder. KKB should name the actual rules beside every fight.
Read the K-1 name precisely
The K-1 WORLD GP rulebook lists legal punches, kicks and knees and excludes elbows, throws and grabbing the opponent. Its standard bout format is three three-minute rounds, with an extension in specified circumstances. An event advertised elsewhere as K1 must be checked against its own organiser’s document.
A dated change: WAKO K1 Style in 2027
WAKO Europe announced on 23 April 2026 that clinching, holding and grabbing will be prohibited in K1 Style from 1 January 2027, with no numerical limit on knee techniques. This is a future change as of 22 October 2026. It must not be applied retrospectively to older results or automatically to another organisation’s events.
What belongs in a fighter record?
Separate the sporting discipline from the promoter, title and venue. A profile can say that an athlete has competed in Kun Khmer and kickboxing while listing a particular appearance under K-1 WORLD GP. That structure lets readers compare like with like without creating a second identity for the same athlete.

No. Kickboxing includes different rules and competition formats. The event’s official rules decide what is allowed.
