A place to learn, and a club with a social purpose

KKB Kun Khmer Boxing welcomes visitors to Battambang who want to discover Cambodian boxing, build fitness or develop an existing practice. President, founder, owner and head coach Robert Grégoire leads a club built around discipline, respect and opportunity. Training is completely free for all Khmer practitioners. KKB also takes no commission from its fighters: their fight purses, victory bonuses and ring earnings belong entirely to the fighter and their family. Contributions from visitors help this model continue; they do not change the right of Cambodian practitioners to train for free.

You can come with no combat experience and no ambition to compete. Explain your goals before your visit: a first group session, a week of practice, technical development or personal coaching. The team can then discuss an appropriate format, the coach available and the time needed. A message or a donation alone does not confirm an appointment.

Choose the kind of training you need

Kun Khmer sessions can include stance, balance, footwork, defence, pad work and bag exercises. Beginners learn progressively, with a pace adapted to their experience. More experienced visitors can explain their background so that technical work has a clear purpose. Controlled sparring is a separate discussion, never a condition for taking part in fitness training. You can ask for a session without contact and without a competition objective.

Street workout and calisthenics use bodyweight movements to develop strength, control and fitness. Individual coaching can focus on boxing technique or this physical preparation. General nutrition guidance can help you think about regular meals, hydration and everyday training habits. It does not replace a qualified health professional, prescribe treatment or promise a particular weight loss result.

  • Group discovery: experience the club and learn the foundations.
  • Training week: agree the number and format of sessions before starting.
  • Private coaching: reserve dedicated time for a specific, realistic objective.

Intelligent practice, with respect for your partner

Robert's teaching philosophy places ring intelligence, evasion and defence before the search for a destructive knockout. For athletes who compete, technical scoring, composure and respect for the opponent matter. For visitors, the same approach means learning to move and protect yourself rather than trying to prove how hard you can hit. A training partner is someone who helps you progress, not a target.

No combat sport can guarantee freedom from injury. Tell the coach about your experience, relevant limitations and whether you want to avoid contact. You can stop an exercise, request a slower pace or choose another activity. Hard contact and blows to the head are not necessary to enjoy a beginner fitness session. Personal boundaries should be clear before training starts.

Understand the voluntary contribution model

The amounts below are proposed contribution references for visitors, not compulsory prices. They make the value of coach time easier to discuss while keeping the welcome accessible. Agree your training arrangements with KKB beforehand, especially for individual coaching or several sessions. If your budget is limited, say so before a coach's time is reserved.

A donation of USD 1 is welcome as support for the club. It does not automatically reserve a lesson and should not be presented as the value of a full hour of individual coaching. Equally, the ability to give a larger donation does not guarantee a particular appointment. The team must first confirm availability, the activity and the arrangements. A voluntary donation and a confirmed coaching booking are different steps.

Why an hour of private coaching deserves consideration

A one-to-one hour involves a coach's attention, preparation and, in some circumstances, travel. That time has value even when KKB does not impose a rigid visitor price. The suggested USD 35–40 contribution for an agreed hour gives a practical reference; it is not a claim that every other gym charges that amount. The comparison below includes one named Phnom Penh example at USD 37.50 per hour, alongside other prices with different conditions.

Monday is normally the club's closing day. An exceptional private appointment is possible only when expressly accepted by KKB and the coach. Do not arrive assuming that a donation obliges someone to work on a rest day. Discuss the time and contribution first, and notify the team promptly if your plans change so that the coach is not left waiting or travelling unnecessarily.

Read the comparison as examples, not a market average

The comparison records public prices on four gyms' own websites, checked on 23 October 2026. It is an illustrative sample from Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Phuket and Chiang Mai. It does not establish a market-wide price range, nor prove that KKB is the cheapest. Published currencies are retained: Thai baht are not converted into dollars using an assumed exchange rate.

Compare the actual product as well as its price. One class is different from a day pass; a weekly plan may include more than one session or extra services. A private class with no published duration cannot be treated as a sixty-minute lesson. Accommodation, equipment rental and named-coach supplements may be separate. Check the linked provider before making travel or training plans.

Prepare a useful visit

When contacting KKB, give your intended dates, approximate experience, preferred activity and whether you are travelling alone or with others. For a training week, agree the number of sessions rather than interpreting a suggested contribution as unlimited access. For private work, choose one or two priorities that a coach can realistically address in an hour. Mention any need for a session without sparring.

Bring comfortable training clothes, drinking water and your own personal equipment where appropriate. Ask what can be provided before you arrive instead of assuming everything is included. Follow the coach's instructions on spacing, equipment and intensity. Take breaks when needed and allow time for recovery between sessions. Progress comes from a sustainable practice, not from exhausting yourself on the first day.

Your contribution supports more than your own session

The club remains a project under construction and continued investment. Coach salaries, water, electricity, maintenance and equipment create ongoing costs. Team travel and accommodation for competitions are another growing need. Robert currently carries most of this financial responsibility and personally finances the Sunday community meals and drinks for KKB students and invited clubs, including their fighters and staff.

Visitors can support these needs through an unrestricted donation or discuss equipment sponsorship separately. Request clear information about the intended use of an earmarked gift. Evidence of delivery should respect the dignity and privacy of young athletes; support must never depend on a child appearing in a promotional video. The purpose is to strengthen an accessible school of sport, discipline and opportunity.

Agree the details before you come

Choose your activity, share your dates and ask KKB to confirm the session. Use the suggested contributions as a starting point for an open conversation. If you have seen a different amount on an earlier page, clarify the current arrangement directly with KKB before booking. You are welcome to support the club without training, or to discuss a visit without making a donation first.
